CEO of Veriheal, Samuel Adetunji, seeks to simplify the medical marijuana industry
Do you suffer from chronic pains or illnesses? Have you or your family members suffered from cancer in the past? While these might seem like rhetorical questions to the families who are dealing with these types of issues on a regular basis, there tons of families who either don’t have these issues or are just now starting to deal with these realizations.
Brooklyn, NY born, Samuel Adetunji knows all too well how crippling the health of a loved one can impact an entire family. Throughout most of Sam’s upbringing, he watched his father deal with cancer, but also saw through his father the powerful effects that medical marijuana could have on one’s ability to cope with an illness. it was that perspective that sparked Sam and his business partner’s passion to make it easier for families to locate medical marijuana centers in the Untied States. They set their sights on creating a start-up company called Veriheal, a telehealth company that connects people all over the country with doctors in their state who can assess and recommend them for medical marijuana.
Since 2017, the "cannatech" (cannabis technology) company has helped more than 100,000 patients take advantage of their unique capabilities. They’ve also launched a scholarship to engage more college students of color in marijuana research and established itself as a leader in cannabis innovation and entrepreneurship—no small accomplishment in an industry in which only 4 percent of businesses are Black-owned.
